Prof. Dr. iur. Petra Buck-Heeb und Prof. Dr. iur. Dr. h.c. (Rouen) Bernd H. Oppermann, Prof. h.c. (UMCS), LL.M. (UCLA) are responsible for the scientific leadership of the Research Area Production and Business.

The Research Area Production and Business examines interdisciplinary issues of digitization and automation in all areas of Production and Business.

The aim of the research is both basic research and applied research, which should lead to knowledge being transformed into practice.

The research focuses in particular on the areas of automation and the industry 4.0, whereby here, amongst other things, the areas of liability and product and producer liability are also examined.

The use of artificial intelligence and the associated impact on contract law are being examined as well as the impact on consumer protection law.

In the area of company law, new kinds of questions are being researched which have come about as a result of the use of artificial intelligence. In addition, the automation of pro-cess flows in companies is being reviewed.

A further focus of the research is the use of artificial intelligence in the area of banking and capital markets law and in the area of auto-mated payment transactions.

In the area of Production and Business, research is conducted in the areas of German, European and international civil and commercial law, corporate law, competition law and antitrust law (including antitrust procedural law).
In the area of competition law, market issues as well as aspects of unfair competition law and other intellectual property rights in national and international markets are being researched. Research is also being carried out regarding the interfaces with intellectual property law (patent law, copyright law, trademark law).

One focus is the area of corporation law. Here, research is carried out in particular on issues of corporate governance and compliance. In addition, research is conducted in the areas of banking and capital markets law as well as on issues regarding information management in companies.
